One particular afternoon, Mr. Sun was feeling lazy — and it happened to be his day for a game of tag with King Thunder and the King of the Clouds. This was a favourite pastime of his, though not many people knew it.

He darted behind a cloud to hide, and the earth below went dark.

“Thunder!” he called from behind the cloud. “I heard what those people down there said — they’re glad you’ve stopped making so much noise! I wouldn’t stand for that if I were you. Go back and give them a proper roar!”

Thunder needed no further encouragement. The rain came down, the skies rumbled and flashed, and the people below said to each other: “What a day — one minute sunshine, the next a thunderstorm.”

And that was quite true, though they didn’t know exactly why.
